Dr. Benumof is the author of several peer-reviewed papers on coastal geology and erosion, a court recognized expert in the area, and has been an attorney specializing in coastal law since 2003 before numerous local agencies and the California Coastal Commission.
In San Diego County, Dr. Benumof's coastal erosion work has become synonymous with “state-of-the-art” and has been recognized by the the chief geologist for the California Coastal Commission as such, calling Dr. Benumof's published work funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) the “best available scientific resource for establishing bluff retreat rates in this area.” As a coastal land use attorney, Dr. Benumof has parlayed this expertise into helping his coastal clients navigate complex issues of law, coastal geology, and government regulation at the local, state, and federal levels.
